CyberMill 2008 Ag Project & “The 5th Annual MILLie Awards”
From Local Farm
Don’t miss out on the exciting activities planned for our 5th “AG” Adventure. From April through August you can take workshops, field trips and enter your media creations in the big contest – “THE MILLie’s.”
to Local Table
Each year’s project is designed to introduce young people to Napa’s agriculture community, give them the opportunity to use their skills in photography, graphic and web design, GameMaker and video or storytelling to create media projects that both inspire and educate the community. Projects are shared on local television, in schools, through Ag in the Classroom, exhibited at local banks and other businesses and entered and shown at our annual MILLie Awards.
Through CyberMill’s 2008 Ag Project we plan to:
• Get informed about local food production: from small kitchen gardens to large-scale acreage for wholesale crops
• Meet and interview experts and local growers
• Visit local farmers markets
• Find out what seasonal crops grow in Napa? In Sonoma? In Suisun?
• If organic, what types of methods used? Composting? etc
• Find out about what it means to be “sustainable” in agriculture.
• Create projects: digital photography, video productions, and ad and web campaigns to educate the community about what we learn.
Students will:
1. Take field trips (see program offerings for dates and times)
2. Create multi-media individually or with a team
3. Submit work in the MILLie’s contest for possible awards and recognition at the MILLie Awards on September 6, 2008.
What is Sustainable Agriculture? “Sustainable agriculture involves food production methods that are healthy, do not harm the environment, respect workers, are humane to animals, provide fair wages to farmers, and support farming communities.”[1]
